1. In an emergency
If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. For 24-hour crisis support, call or text 988 — free, in Spanish. You can also text HOME to 741741. These lines always answer and have nothing to do with HABLA or with your organisation.
HABLA is not an emergency service. Nobody monitors this page or the product in real time, and the system does not detect emergencies on its own.
2. What HABLA is not
HABLA is not screening, diagnosis, treatment, triage, therapy, or medical care. It does not evaluate anyone’s risk and does not infer a condition from what a person taps on the screen.
What it does is give a person language for asking for help, show them who they might turn to, and — if they choose — send their request for contact to someone who can respond.
3. Mandatory reporting
In Texas, certain people are legally required to report when they know or suspect a child may be abused or neglected — Texas Family Code §261.101. That obligation attaches to the people who receive the information, not to the platform.
That is why the notice appears before the person writes, not afterwards: someone about to tell you something has a right to know what happens next, in their language and in plain words.
4. What is anonymous and what is not
- Tapping topics, choosing a mood, and reading scripts is anonymous. Who it was, exactly when, and from which device are not stored.
- Filling in the form to request contact is not anonymous: it is the opposite, and it is voluntary. What you write reaches the person designated to respond.
- Crisis topics are not counted in any way. Not even anonymously.
5. No payment for referrals
Nobody is paid for sending a person to a provider. There is no fee per contact, per booking, or per patient anywhere in this system. Provider listings are a flat annual fee that does not vary with volume or outcome.
A listed provider is not clinically recommended by us, and a listing does not guarantee availability, coverage, or outcome.
6. Accuracy of local resources
The national resources that appear by default are maintained by us. Local resources are added and maintained by each organisation. If you find a number that no longer works, tell your organisation or write to us.
